Credentialing

The Palo Verde Unified School District is a California Public School District and is bound by regulations set by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.      
 
The major purpose of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is to serve as a state standards board for educator preparation for the public schools of California, the licensing and credentialing of professional educators in the State, the enforcement of professional practices of educators, and the discipline of credential holders in the State of California.
 
All applicants for certificated positions must hold or be eligible for the appropriate California credential for the position being sought.  In addition, certain teaching positions will also fall under the California Department of Education’s – No Child Left Behind regulations.
To be considered for a certificated position, an applicant must have the following:
 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a fully accredited college or university.
  • Verification of passage of CBEST (if applicable).
  • A valid California teaching credential for the level and subject area of application.
  • Qualify as NCLB compliant for applicable positions.

Credential Renewals – Online or Paper Applications
Credentials renewed online are processed faster than applications submitted by mail, usually within 10 working days. All Clear, Professional, and Professional Clear credentials must be renewed online. Emergency 30 Day Substitute Permits and Child Development Permits may be renewed online. All others must be submitted by mail.
Do not renew online if you have already submitted an application for the same credential by mail. Fees for duplicate applications are not refundable.

Area Universities with Commission approved programs offer classroom and/or online courses.
As a Palo Verde Unified School District teacher there are several local universities available for further professional development.  If you are enrolling for the first time in a teacher credentialing program, or if you have already earned a credential and are interested in pursuing more advanced professional studies, you may want to contact one of the colleges or universities in our area.
